Meet Jared

We decided to go on a wee walk this evening with Josh.  (I feel like this is how every one of our random China adventures begins.  We really need to stop going out on walks).

We only made it two building over and there was a guy taking a little baby chicken out of a box to let it run around in the little grassy area in front of his building.  We stopped so Joshua could take a closer look.

The man started talking to us, but we literally had no idea what he was saying.  Everyone talks to us, so  it's pretty much a daily thing to carry on these kind of awkward conversations.  About a minute passes and the guy waves to us and walks away...without his chick.  We stood there a little confused.  We looked at each other and said "wait, did we just adopt a baby chicken?!?!"

The guy never came back, so still a little confused, we picked up the chick and took it home!

I must have somehow missed that Chinese class on giving live poultry as gifts to random people on the street.

On the way home we discussed a name for our new addition to the family, and decided that my brother Jared would appreciate the randomness of this experience the most, so we named our new baby Jared. lol.

We went right home and created a little home for Jared in our balcony area.

We threw a sheet over the clothes hanger.  I think Jared likes it.

Joshua does not really like Jared yet, but thats okay.  I am sure he will come around.  I really hope they become best little buddies.

I have no idea if this will happen or not, but I really want to keep Jared until he nice and plump...then kill him, and eat him!  We will see if we can put up with a live chicken living in our home for that long, lol.
