Fun weekend at Home

Yesterday Spencer and I accomplished a big feat here in China. We successfully hosted a dinner party to an entire Chinese family that could not speak any English! Spencer is getting really good at Chinese. We fed them Enchiladas with a salad and I think they liked it, the kids not as much.  So let me tell you about this family. The mom is named Li Fang. (She is not in the picture) And she is like a little Angel to me. Ever since I met her I’ve wanted to be her friend but I don’t really know the culture, the language, and Josh still does not like Chinese people around. We met her around at the end of July and it was perfect timing. We were outside playing with Josh, thinking how we could make just a little bit more money over the summer so we could do some traveling and visa trips when out of now where Li Fangs mom asked if I tutored and if I could teach her grandson every day for 2 hours. What????Well, of course, this was an amazing blessing for us. Anyways, she has had us over for lunch a few times, and Josh goes and plays with her youngest boy who is 2 years old. – side note. If you are from a certain province or a farmer for example you are allowed more than one child. However, if you are not and you want another child you must pay the government a penalty and the 2nd child is not given any government privileges’ only the first born is. So it is very very expensive. It’s all very interesting. – Li Fang came to my rescue when Josh needed to go to the hospital. She is such a good mom and there is such a good spirit in her home and around her family.
Love these people!

So, yesterday as I was preparing for dinner I started thinking of how much I love this family and want to show them how grateful I am for them and what I can do to show them not just tell them. I was so stumped. But I kept thinking of growing up and being taught to always share the gospel. I don’t know when in life Spencer and I will ever be surrounded by so many non-members J  And I truly hope we can live places where we can make true and sincere friendships with people not of our faith so that we can share with them our happiness of the gospel.  But I found it so ironic, that the only thing I want, is to show this family how much I love them and all I can think to give them is the gospel, but, we are forbidden. And even though I served a mission I can probably only think of a few people that I loved so much, I ached for them to have the gospel. And when I think of them, I have that feeling. I want to be with that family forever. I know they would go to church. I know they would love the teaching of the plan of salvation. Some day!

We finally got some CHURCH shoes!
I told him to pose for a picture and he went over to his ball and wanted a picture!

Does anyone else think Josh looks so big?! I can't
believe it. He hasn't worn long pants and shirt for like
4 months. So I think he looks so cute in them.

We had some friends over for dinner tonight Josh
loves there little 5 year old. He got hurt and
she picked him up and he was hugging her. Its cute
because its so not Josh.
Josh and I have tried to make some Halloween
decorations. We miss doing crafty things :)
 You wouldn't believe
how hard it was to find black colored paper! He loved
making these and calls them babies. He will go up real
close and look at them and say
"baby daddy, baby mommy, and baby Joshy"

Josh loves snuggling mom or dad

Spencer and I tried to get Josh to go to bed on his own instead
of me snuggling him. He cried for 40 min then fell
asleep at his door :( He only tried coming out of his
room twice though. We did this for 3 days until he was
so anxious to go to bed and hated reading his books
and having prayer, he would start crying as soon as we started his routine.

Over a year ago when Spencer and I started planning on moving here to Nanjing, I told him that ideally I had to live by 4 things in order to survive China.
1. Walmart
2. McDonalds
3. H&M
4. Church
And without getting to sappy…I just want my family to know Heavenly Father has been so mindful of us and our housing needs. Not only were we inspired and led to our apartment, but on this coming Saturday, we will walk down the street 10 min to a brand new huge shopping mall that has a Walmart, Mcdonalds, and H&M (also with a kids section) this, for me, is such a blessing. And, if I haven’t mentioned it before, today was the first Sunday in our new Church building which moved to a new location that is a 10 min scooter ride away and 2 stops on the metro! I feel so grateful. Maybe Heavenly Father is trying to make it easier for me here, so we stay longer!? J

  2. I love your Missionary spirit. I love the new shoes and how cute and grown up Josh looks in his long pants. I really love the witches, mommy, daddy, and Josh babies. Those would be my top choices to live close to also. I would also like a material store, but then Walmart has material.

  4. Wow, you're so lucky to have those things in China! I saw a Walmart once in China, and got cheese there- it was the first time I'd had it in months! Lucky you. I am so jealous- I miss China so bad! Enjoy it while you can!
