Match Maker
I have read/heard about parents going to parks throughout China on the weekends and playing matchmaker with other parents, but I have never seen it before. I know this is really dorky, but I was SO excited today when we went to the park and saw a fairly large gathering of mostly parents hanging up 'advertisements' for their children. I watched and listened as parents wrote down phone numbers, compared, and even set up dates for their kids with other parents!
I find this extremely fascinating. Things like this really remind me how complex the Chinese culture is. I think it would be unfair to say this is weird, wrong, or bad. I love finding things in the Chinese culture that remind me that we do things one way, and other cultures do things another way, and there is no right or wrong, just different.
Anyways, I was able to check something off my list of things I have always wanted to see while in China.
